Greetings from South Australia!
I couldn't believe my luck when I spotted this spectacular, maximal-sized female Thorny Devil 𝑴𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒄𝒉 𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒖𝒔 around 100 clicks south of the NT border a few years back. She is the first and only one I've seen in northern SA to date. What made this encounter so special however, was just how late she was active in the season. It was around midday and a mild 18 degrees C. The clouds were breaking up at the time after a completely overcast morning in the middle of May! The area had just received a deluge of rain over the previous few days and I often wonder if she had been displaced by sheet flooding, which was receding at the time of the observation. I will never forget how stunning a specimen she was. I'm so grateful that I've got this image to take me back to that magic time.
